BLOG: My Why: Big wave grieving - how to survive
Ever been wiped out by grief? Left bashed, bruised and gasping on the shore? Is it possible to survive these huge waves of grief?
This is a subject I'm blogging about because of the lovely Evelyn Calaunan.
One of the 'rewards' for supporting me monthly through https://www.buymeacoffee.com/thesilentwhy is to choose a blog topic for me to mull over and write about, and this one was inspired by Evelyn.
(Thank you, Evelyn, for your support - it means a lot to me.)
So, welcome to another My Why from me, Claire Sandys, co-host of The Silent Why podcast.
My Why episodes are audio versions of my latest blog post. If you'd prefer to read it, you can find it here: https://www.thesilentwhy.com/post/bigwavegrieving
Evelyn was a guest on Episode 46 talking about her work as a Funeral Celebrant in Australia, so I was interested to see what she'd ask me to blog about. Evelyn has been through some very tough grief recently, but also experiences waves of it over the loss of her father 25 years ago. She told me that she really struggles with the unexpected waves of grief that appear and wipe her out emotionally and she'd like to explore that more - why do they come? will they always come? and how can we navigate them?
We might all find ourselves telling others that waves of grief are normal and part of the journey, we have the head knowledge, but when we experience them, when we are wiped out completely by one, it can be incredibly hard to understand and process. So how can we survive these big waves, and is it possible to prepare for them?
